Pants Bandit Strikes Again: Suburb Clutches Its Gym Bags

Pants Bandit Strikes Again: Suburb Clutches Its Gym Bags

A LaughParty comic take.

LaughParty Comic Take: Everything below is made-up satire inspired by an odd online post. No real neighbors, burglars, or trousers were interviewed.

Residents of the fictional suburb of Pickle Creek are locking their doors, their windows and, most urgently, their laundry hampers. A mysterious figure has been stealing one item and one item only: jiu-jitsu pants.

Not wallets. Not televisions. Not the bowl of decorative lemons on Mrs. Ferngully's counter that has been practically begging to be stolen since 2019. Just the thick, cotton, impossible-to-fold trousers that grapplers wear while politely trying to tie each other into pretzels.

"I came home and everything was exactly where I left it," said local accountant and blue belt Dennis Wobble. "Except my gym bag was open and my pants were gone. The thief left my belt. That's somehow more insulting. It's like they looked at it and said, 'No thanks, I'm going places.'"

Neighborhood watch captain Gloria Plimpton has launched a full investigation. So far it consists of a whiteboard, three highlighters and a map with pins in every house that smells faintly of mat cleaner. "The suspect is clearly experienced," she said. "Do you know how hard it is to sneak out with those pants? They're basically sailcloth. You can hear them coming from two blocks away. Swish. Swish. Swish."

Theories are spreading faster than gossip at a potluck. Some believe the culprit is sewing a giant quilt. Others suspect a scarecrow seeking a more athletic look. One teenager insists it's a raccoon training for the regional tournament, and honestly, nobody has disproven it.

Victims report a few clues. Each crime scene features a single sock, neatly folded, as if to say, "I'm a thief, not a monster." A doorbell camera captured only a blurry figure performing what one hobbyist described as "a very confident shrimping motion" across a front lawn at 3 a.m.

Local gyms are taking precautions. The Pickle Creek Grappling Club now requires members to wear their pants home, to the grocery store and, reportedly, to one wedding. "It's a sacrifice," said the head coach. "But we will not be intimidated. We will be very sweaty, but not intimidated."

Meanwhile, the neighborhood's karate students are mildly offended that their pants remain untouched. "Are ours not good enough?" asked one. Officials in this totally imaginary town declined to comment on pant-based rivalries.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Pickle Creek Neighborhood Watch, or simply listen for the swishing. If you spot someone wearing seven pairs of pants at once, do not approach. They have probably been practicing their escapes.
