Local Husband Given Halloween Budget, Boundless Trust, and Eleven Inflatable Spiders

Local Husband Given Halloween Budget, Boundless Trust, and Eleven Inflatable Spiders

A LaughParty comic take.

Comic fiction alert: this is a made-up humor piece inspired by a general theme. The people, the house, and the spiders are all invented.

In a fictional suburb called Pumpkinshire Heights, a man named Gary (not a real Gary, just a Gary-shaped idea) was handed one sacred task: decorate the house for Halloween. His wife, Denise, said only, 'Just have fun with it,' which experts agree are the six most dangerous words in home improvement.

Denise left for what she thought was a quick errand. In this story, it lasted three hours, which is roughly two hours and fifty minutes longer than Gary needed.

When she returned, the front yard had become a haunted amusement park with no safety inspector. A twelve-foot skeleton loomed over the porch, wearing a pair of Gary's old reading glasses. Beside it stood a ghost made from a bedsheet, a lamp, and what appeared to be the vacuum cleaner. 'He's called Sir Suckington,' Gary explained. 'He's a ghost with a dark past and strong suction.'

The eleven inflatable spiders were arranged in what Gary called 'a menacing formation' and what Denise called 'a very confused family reunion.' One had slowly deflated and now rested its head on the mailbox, like a tired commuter.

Inside, things escalated. Gary had draped the entire staircase in fake cobwebs, then added a motion sensor that triggered a cackling witch every time someone passed. Unfortunately, the sensor also noticed the cat. The cat now believed the house was cursed, and the witch had been triggered 400 times by lunchtime. Both seemed exhausted.

The dining room featured a 'mad scientist laboratory,' which was the good casserole dishes filled with green Jell-O and one gummy worm per dish. 'Educational,' said Gary. 'Also dessert.'

Denise stood in the doorway, absorbing it all. A bat swung from the chandelier. A scarecrow sat in her favorite armchair, holding a remote control. Somewhere, the witch cackled again.

'Well?' Gary asked, glowing with the pride of a man who had definitely used every zip tie in the garage. 'Too much?'

Denise thought about it. She considered the spiders, the vacuum ghost, and the Jell-O laboratory. Then a trick-or-treater, one of three who had arrived early out of sheer curiosity, whispered, 'This is the best house ever.'

'It's perfect,' Denise said, and she meant it, mostly. She did make one small request: that next year, supervision be restored, or at least that the vacuum be returned to duty before the carpet's big day.

Gary agreed, already sketching plans for a sixteen-foot spider. The cat has moved in with the neighbors.
